A Surprising Trip to London on Valentine's Day

by yee on Jan.30, 2010, under Valentine's Day

Kevin had been on business for a month out of town and his girlfriend Sherry started to worry whether her boyfriend would come back in time for the next Valentine's Day which was coming soon. Thus, she made a call to him, asking whether they would spend a romantic Valentine's Day in London together. Surprisingly, Kevin nicely promised to come back to accompany her to spend that special holiday.

The long expected Valentine's Day finally came and Kevin also came back as planned. On the special day, they got dressed decently and went out to enjoy the happy moment they had been long expecting.

First of all, they reached a shopping mall and hung around in it to see if there were some new arrivals for the coming spring. And they were right because there were countless and colorful new arrivals for spring and here was indeed a shopping paradise. Sherry could not resist the temptation of her hobby – doing shopping and began to try on some coats she took a fancy to. Finally, she ended up holding lots of new clothes in her hand, implying she wanted her dear boyfriend to buy for her. Out of her expectation, Kevin took all of them for her and she became wild with joy.

In the afternoon, after they saw a romantic movie Titanic, they arrived at the central park where there were also numerous lovers like them. They took a leisurely walk in the park, appreciating the beautiful flowers and green trees and recalling how they met each other three years ago.

With the curtain of night, they went to a well decorated restaurant to enjoy their own candlelight dinner. There was a guy playing soft and romantic music with the piano and waiters serving in a satisfying way in the restaurant. All the Valentine's Day's atmosphere made the two lovers extremely happy. By the end of the dinner, Kevin took out a bunch of roses from nowhere like a magician and passed it to Sherry. She was so joyful to get it and smelt. All of a sudden, the bunch of roses unfolded like blossoming out and a small box appeared in the center of the roses. She was surprised to open and see a Links of London ring in it. Oh, God, she could have nearly passed out.

Kevin got back the box, kneed down with one knee and put the Links of London ring on her finger. That was a proposal. Kevin said, "Will you marry me?" Sherry was moved to tears, replying, "Yes, I will."

The Longing of an Empty Heart

by yee on Jan.22, 2010, under Valentine's Day

Anyone who is not single enjoys the Valentine's Day, and anyone who is single cannot help but bear in their mind the possibility of running into love on this special occasion with another lingering soul. Unfortunately, I fall in the scope of the latter; luckily I am not too hopeful so as not to be pushed to the desperate edge when nothing is derived from the same occasion of ruthlessness which is particular to single people.

Like other single people, staying inside was not a desirable alterative for me. I summoned all the courage I needed and put on the coat together with my favorite high heels, and I started another exploration in this city.

People have changed, but the city has not, or just too little to be unrecognizable. The streets were full of lovers, some of them were hand in hand, some of them were beholding each other affectionately in their eyes, some of them were just walking with their chains up and a bunch of roses in their hands and some of them were opening their arms ready to embrace the happiness at hand.

However, only a few people, people like me, who thought the street was empty, the city was empty, the world was empty and our lives were incomplete, this state of mind was most obvious on the Valentine's Day, a day to celebrate, to reflect, to redefine love, and a day to bury the old, painful memories.

I used to have doubts about love, then I changed my perspective when I met this guy who convinced me by his deeds that love did exist around me, we had a Valentine's Day together. Later that year we ended up breaking up and once again my heart was clouded by the leftover of a love feast. I went back and forth, trying to fight for with all my efforts a normal life which was over brimmed with love.

The end of the road was approaching and the imagination was about to be over. I pretended to be brave and tough when I faced the forked crossroad, after all it was the most effective way to hold back the tears and the most direct way to persuasive you not to lose hope, that is what the longing of the empty heart taught me on that Valentine's Day.
