The Simpson Kids

by yee on Mar.11, 2010, under big big world

My dad used to tell me when I was little that the Simpson family must be crazy. They had four kids, two boys and two girls and they financial conditions were just like ours, the money we earned was just enough to make the ends meet. But the Simpson family led a totally different life.

They would spend some time in Aspen, skiing. Just think about it, six pairs of skiing shoes, six pairs of sleighs, six traveling bags and six pairs of everything, plus the other fees, the Simpson family must be crazy. They would organize a family outing every winter, six pairs of Ugg boots, six pieces of new clothes, they were indeed, formed special scenery in the world of ice and snow.

They would go biking in the surrounding district and six bikes, six helmets. The season of spring was never more interesting.

Compared to the Simpson, our family was less active, we cut our budget so that we could keep a roof over our head, we saved our money for a bigger space and future use, we did not often think about having vacation or going traveling.

Last week I ran into Mr. Simpson, he was retired now, living in a country house not far away from the city. I was visiting my parents; we had been neighbors for years.

"Hello, Mr. Simpson. You look great."
"Thanks. You kids all have grown up. I still remember when you were little you always clung to your father, you were shy and quiet."
"Yeah, I miss those days. Speaking of that, I could not understand how you guys managed to take all those vacations, I envied your family."
"Yeah, the money was a big problem but we overcame it. We applied some loans from the banks and we had to work extremely hard to pay it back. You know I got a letter from my son a few days ago, he said that he had a lot of fun when he was a child; he still remembers the time when the whole family went to Aspen. I still keep the Ugg boots in case they want to do that again."
"I am afraid they don't fit anymore."

I never asked my parents why our childhood was so dull and lack of adventure because I knew the answer was lying somewhere between money and life attitude.
